Sturmey Archer enclosed hubs

At VELORBIS® we use high quality enclosed drum brakes and dynamo driven hubs from the renowned (formerly) English hub manufacturers, Sturmey Archer. Enclosing the gears protects the machinery from the weather, hence they involve much lower maintenance than the derailleur systems found on most bikes. Other advantages of internal gears are that they are very simple on the outside and come with a chain guard. They are therefore much cleaner, allowing you to cycle in your everyday clothing rather than having to wear specialist cycle gear. Our hubs are available with 3, 5 and 8 speed hubs.

Van Shothort stainless steel rims

Van Shothort stainless steel rims from Dutch rim manufacturers Rigida. Since the beginning in 1908 , RIGIDA has been an expert in producing high quality bicycle rims. All our bicycles are equipped with stainless steel nipples and stainless steel spokes ensuring the highest quality on the market.

Schwalbe ‘FAT FRANK’ tires

Schwalbes 60 millimeter wide ‘Fat Frank’ balloon tires ensure that the bicycle rolls amazingly easily with full suspension effect. With their immense volume balloon tires eat up pot holes and road deformations protecting the rider's bones and joints. Fat Frank tires reduce the impacts on the spine almost as well as rear suspension

LUMUTEC Retro Senso Plus - dynamo driven front lamp

To see and be seen - this is vital in today's road traffic, particularly for cyclists. Since 1925 German Bush & Müller has been following this principle in developing designing and manufacturing our unique products for bicycles. All Velorbis models are equipped with the state of the art technology from the LUMUTEC Retro Senso Plus dynamo driven lamp, with a built in parking light that ensures you are seen when stopping for red light. The front lamp comes with an integral reflector. The lamp automatically turns on when it gets dark due to the built in Automatic Illumination function. The lamp has a stunning 17 lux luminosity.

Lugged Frames

All our lugged frames are made of high quality chromoly steel, as opposed to traditional Hi-ten steel frames, you will find on most steel-made bicycles on the market today. This initiative reduces the weight of our vintage bicycles to below 19 kilos and makes them a perfect fit for the “traffic jamming” urban commuting. All of our low maintenance bicycles are specially built to resist the tough Scandinavian weather where snow, frost and salt constantly threaten to attack every single component of your bicycle. To prevent this from happening, we have equipped our models with zinc plated mudguards, powder coated and rust protected chromoly steel frames, and stainless steel nuts and bolts. All of these precautionary elements are made at our German factory, enabling us to reduce lead times and added flexibility to constantly monitor and optimise our quality control process.

Velorbis Head Tube badge

It is the same with our VELORBIS® lion crest as it is with our bicycles – we have a passion for excellence – reflected in everything that we do. The crest is chromed alloy and 100% our own design, incorporating significant details. The 2 lions symbolise the 2 founders of VELORBIS®, who both have LEO as their star signs. The Crown symbolises the fact that the founders both originate from the Kingdoms of Denmark and Sweden – also the United Kingdom as this was where the essence of VELORBIS® emerged. At VELORBIS® we wish to be majestic in everything we do and as such, we have designed our bicycles to be ultra posture-friendly with a relaxed riding position to give a majestic vantage point from which to monitor the traffic and view the surroundings.

Moustache Handle bars

The handle bar is our own design and inspired by the shape of a seagull or a moustache. It is ergonomic correct and the sit-up-and-beg style provides a posture-friendly and relaxed riding position and gives a high vantage point from which to view the traffic. The handle bar is chromed to the highest standards.

BROOKS ‘CHALLENGE’ leather toolbag

In the 1890s, the founder of BROOKS, John Boultbee Brooks, having patented a number of innovations in saddles, began to develop other cycling accessories, starting with tool bags, handlebar bags, holdalls and panniers. BROOKS’ range expanded until the 1960’s, when the offer of products was much larger than nowadays. Recently BROOKS reproduced some of the most interesting designs, such as the BROOKS Challenge toolbag. NOTE: the BROOKS toolbag is NOT standard equipment on the Velorbis models outside the US.

BROOKS leather saddle B67 (Gents) & B67s (Ladies)

All VELORBIS® classic bicycles are equipped as standard with all-inclusive antique brown leather luxury saddles from BROOKS® - the world-leading English saddle maker since 1866. BROOKS® bicycle leather saddles have a reputation for comfort and beauty. The B67 model takes the popular top of the B66 and mates it with the single-rail sprung frame that has proven so popular in the Flyer series saddles. Once broken-in the BROOKS® leather moulds and its tension slackens, leaving it with the sag of a hammock. You can effectively sit in the saddle, as opposed to on it as you do on a plastic-based saddle. It is an amazing feeling – just like sitting on air. For maintenance the saddle needs re-tensioned by tightening the nose bolt from time to time.

BROOKS leather grips

In the BROOKS tradition, our grips are made of natural leather, the same long wearing BROOKS leather used for our saddle tops. BROOKS only buys the central part of the hide, the back of the cow, which is thicker and stronger. For our saddles BROOKS cut one leather top at a time, taking great care both in guaranteeing a homogeneous quality and in minimizing the residue. Nevertheless a lot of BROOKS leather remains unused, and it is this part which is now employed in the manufacturing of our grips. Each BROOKS Leather Grip is made with a stack of leather washers held together by 3 bicycle spokes and 2 aluminium rings. This construction enables each of the 2 BROOKS grips to be shortened independently to the desired length.

BROOKS leather Mud Flap

Our BROOKS leather mud flap, inspired by a product which first featured in BROOKS’ 1937 catalogue, at that time when cycling was more commonly used for transportation than for leisure. A BROOKS leather mud flap can make a difference when it comes to the little details that make your bike look more elegant. A perfect match to your BROOKS Saddle and BROOKS grips.

Practical & strong rear carrier

The strong rear carrier is produced in Denmark special made for Velorbis. It has a small hook off the side of the carrier rack, which would seemingly prevent the use of panniers. In fact it's designed so that any bag with a handle can be securely carried hanging against the side of the bike. As a nice detail all Velorbis models come with a name plate attached at the end of the rear carrier. Here you can have your own name printed for added exclusivity. SECULITE plus - the dynamo driven rear lamp.

All Velorbis models are equipped with the state of the art technology from German Bush & Müller. The SECULITE plus rear lamp is dynamo driven, with a built in parking light that ensures you are seen when stopping for red light. The rear lamp comes with an integral reflector. The lamp automatically turns on when it gets dark due to the built in Automatic Illumination function. No batteries or accumulators required. The stand light will automatically switch off after 2 minutes when parked.
